The long-running magazine edited by C.H. Spurgeon.
The Sword and the Trowel magazine became one of the notable Christian (and of course, particularly, Baptist) periodicals in London and throughout the UK, reaching prominent heights under the genius and care of C.H. Spurgeon.
These volumes included many wonderful sermons, articles, illustrations, tracts, church and missionary updates, book reviews, and more from the hand of Spurgeon, Pastors’ College cohorts, and other pastors and well-known figures in their day.
These annual volumes have never been properly reproduced in full.
The magazine was produced from 1865 through the end of Spurgeon’s life in 1892, but continued well beyond, with much additional Spurgeon influence and information/content following even after his death.
In modern history, these volumes have yet to ever be reproduced in full; the most we’ve had access to are abridged and consolidated volumes that omitted a vast amount of material.
Republication has been long overdue for these gems.
These newly printed, high-quality volumes should satisfy a valuable need, giving access to seminaries, pastors, students, and others—many for the first time ever. As it stands, if you do not own an original copy, you do not own a copy. . . . and this must change.
With the ‘Prince of Preachers’ being studied, read, and referenced more than ever, these new publications should fill a great void and make use of such wonderful material once again!

We are beginning to fully reprint these Sword and Trowel volumes——beginning with Volume I (1865). Compared to the first editions, these volume have:
New, crisp font for an easy reading experience.
Styling true to original volumes is retained throughout.
Pictures and illustrations extracted from the original volumes.
We intend to continue producing sequential volumes indefinitely, Deo volente, with the hope of completing numerous volumes per year. As this is yet another massive project for us, we would love to again garner your support for our labors to bring more Spurgeon material back to market in a modern and desirable, yet still loyal, format!
