CONDITION
Books are in GOOD/VERY GOOD shape for their age. Age spotting and toning present, but pages are clean and clear everywhere that we have looked. Wonderful size volumes for even small bookcases. Gilt on boards are still in great shape, and bindings all seem very sound. Some wear to spine cloth at ends, and some fading to boards here and there, but pages inside are quite crisp, as if hardly read. Tissue paper over photos are still present.
Henry, Matthew - Commentary on the New Testament [Preface by C.H. Spurgeon]- William Mackenzie (c.1888)
Complete New Testament commentary by Matthew Henry. The scarce factor of these is that they have a preface written by C.H. Spurgeon. While the sets themselves do not have a print year listed, the preface as written appears to be a modified comment of Henry’s works by Spurgeon (from his Commenting & Commentaries); we have seen them listed as being printed between 1886 and 1888 in one instance, and believe this may be correct (instead of being a posthumous preface, of which their is no indication; we have seen a reference to “c.1900” as well, but no book printing evidence to support that print date).
In Spurgeon’s Commenting & Commentaries, he says of Matthew Henry’s commentary work:
